Over 70 people from many communities in the Scenic Rim gathered at a public meeting at Beaudesert on Friday March 18 to learn more about the coal mining and coal seam gas threats now impacting on the Scenic Rim region. One lane of Beechmont Road, Lower Beechmont (between Bottletree Lane and 2km from Nerang-Murwillumbah Road intersection) is now open to traffic.

This lane will operate under stop and go traffic conditions until further notice. Minor delays can be expected.

Please slow down - roadwork safety is your responsibility too.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads is working to have Beechmont Road partially open between Bottletree Lane and 2 kilometres from Nerang–Murwillumbah Road intersection on Thursday evening (20 January 2011), weather permitting.

One lane of the road will be open under stop and go traffic conditions. Minor delays can be expected.

Beechmont Road remains closed between Bottletree Lane and 2km from Nerang-Murwillumbah Road intersection due to landslips.

Abseilers are on-site removing loose material from the rock face by hand scaling. This work is expected to continue until the end of the week, weather permitting.

Following the completion of this work, a geotechnical assessment will take place to determine if the road is safe to re-open.
