Beechmont Road landslip repairs now complete

Transport and Main Roads has now completed repairs on all 23 landslips along Beechmont Road.

These landslips occurred as a result of Severe Tropical Cyclone Debbie in March 2017.

The 23 landslips (10 major and 13 minor) were located in a 16-kilometre section of Beechmont Road between the Nerang-Murwillumbah Road intersection and Lower Beechmont. Although difficult ground conditions delayed the completion of these works, the project’s engineers and onsite team have successfully constructed the new pile and capping beam wall, secured with more than 20 ground anchors which extend 24m into hard rock.

The installation of guard rails, demobilisation of the site office on Bottletree Lane and the removal of traffic control will be completed in early March. We thank the local community for their patience and understanding during these important restoration works.

Some interesting project statistics include:

• Construction ran from April 2018 to March 2019
• More than 700 soil nails were installed
• The total drilling length of all soil nails was almost 5km
• 85 staff worked on the project throughout construction.

I’VE GOT (REAL) MAIL

I’VE GOT (REAL) MAIL!

Beechmont and Lower Beechmont residents are urged to check their post boxes from 1 March 2019 for their BEECHMONT POSTCARDS.

QCWA and community volunteers will be delivering these special postcards to you in the next two weeks.

BEECHMONT POSTCARDS make it easy to connect with neighbours and new residents in your area. They also help to build a caring and resilient community – important in everyday life and natural disasters.

Simply fill in your postcards and drop them into the post boxes of neighbours or people you’d like to reach out to. And don’t forget to look in your post box – you might find people reaching out to you!

The Beechmont Postcard Project is an initiative of your local Country Women’s Association Beechmountain Branch. It supports Neighbour Day (Sunday 31 March 2019). Grateful thanks to Canungra & District Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank (for covering the cost of printing) and local, Emily Pearce, for the graphic design.

Beechmont Shuttle Trial

Thank you to everyone who expressed their interest in a Gold Coast Cabs shuttle service for the Beechmont area.
We’re keen to kick off a trial and would like to know the following:

Is Nerang Station through to the Flying Bean Café and return far enough for travellers?

Is $5 a head for this trip reasonable?

At what time of day would this service be most convenient to locals?

If you’d like to be emailed more information and a timetable once commenced, please email us your pick up/drop off address and what time would be most convenient for you to shuttle@gccabs.com.au
