In early 2025, the NBN want to construct a 40m tower on a section of the Beechmont old school site. This site is owned by Scenic Rim Regional Council (SRRC) and managed by Beech Mountain Association (BMA). There has been minimal community consultation on its location and whether the community want the option of fixed wireless internet on the mountain. The NBN website states that ADSL internet and Telstra copper home landline services will be phased out once NBN is available. The BMA committee have been told by the NBN representative that there is a window for this tower to be built and if the community do not want it now, NBN in our area will be put on hold for possibly several years. A recent meeting at the site revealed many concerns of the local residents, and it was agreed that the NBN needs to listen to the people. This affects mostly SRRC residents rather than Lower Beechmont as the Fixed Wireless range will be central / upper Beechmont, towards Binna Burra and into Numinbah Valley.
Please complete this survey by 21 January 2025 so we can pass on feedback to both NBN and council.
Thank you
